"Hingham's town flower was brought to Hingham in the mid-nineteenth century by West Hingham artist Winkworth Allen Gay from Fontainbleau, France. The flowers florished along the town brook for years and many boys and girls sold them in bunches at the old railroad station in the square." - excerpt taken from the Hingham Historical Society's archives.
